Graphic Online gathers he felt sick after his mother's burial about three weeks ago. <h2><a href="https://ghanapa.com/profile-of-ex-president-jerry-john-rawlings/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">He was 73-years-old.</a></h2> Mr Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947. His mother, Madam Victorial Agbotui died in September 2020 at age 101 and was buried on October 24, 2020. <div><br /></div><div> As a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician, Mr Rawlings led a military junta from 1981 until 1992 and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana from January 7, 1993 to January 6, 2001. </div><div><br /></div><div> Mr Rawlings initially came to power as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. </div><div><br /></div><div> Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on May 15, 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. </div><div><br /></div><div> After initially handing power over to a civilian government, he took back control of the country on December 31, 1981 as the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). </div><div><br /></div><div> In 1992, Mr Rawlings resigned from the military, founded the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and became the first President of the 4th Republic. </div><div><br /></div><div>He was re-elected in 1996 for four more years. So, they allowed him to come in.<br /> <br />  I was in bed with drips and other things on me – he was then very young, not with a [grey beard] – and he told me: ‘Togbui, why are you in bed? You are so young to be in bed; no, you’re not sick, get up; I have a vision for you! This man told me: ‘Togbui, you have to rescue this community, I have a vision that you’ll be one of the greatest kings in Ghana’.<br /> <br /> And, today, my name is everywhere: [in] every corner of the world; not only in Ghana. Ghana EC to compile new voters’ register for 2020 elections

The Electoral Commission has announced it will compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary election.<br /> <br /> The decision was reached Wednesday at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, four years after the Commission rejected the idea for a new voters’ register to be compiled.<br /> <br /> Calls for a new voters’ register intensified in 2015 but were rejected by the EC,  triggering series of protests from pro-New Patriotic Party groups which argued the then register for the 2016 general elections was bloated.<br /> <br /> However, a panel chaired by the late Justice V.C.R.A.C. A crime is a crime and those in authority must ensure justice is served,” he said.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Ambrose Derry, the Interior Minister has assured that the police will expeditiously investigate the murder.<br /> <br /> He said the issue will be treated as a criminal one and the perpetrators will be brought to book.
