While Obour had 296 votes, Mr. Asante-Boateng polled 360 votes.<br /> <br /> NPP delegates have voted to elect parliamentary candidates for 168 constituencies.<br /> <br /> This exercise is the second phase after the first phase of the primaries came off in September 2019 in constituencies with no sitting Members of Parliament.<br /> <br /> A total of 374 aspirants contested in the 168 constituencies. FF Anto once said, 'Insolence dragged NDC to Opposition' and I think it's a truism.<br /> <br />  If the Minority(NDC) knew they wouldn't sit down and listen to what the President had to say, then I think they shouldn't have attended the meeting in the first place.<br /> <br /> Why would you come and walk out? To me, the walkout is a sign of indiscipline and dis-respectfulness. Ghana EC to compile new voters’ register for 2020 elections

The Electoral Commission has announced it will compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary election.<br /> <br /> The decision was reached Wednesday at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, four years after the Commission rejected the idea for a new voters’ register to be compiled.<br /> <br /> Calls for a new voters’ register intensified in 2015 but were rejected by the EC,  triggering series of protests from pro-New Patriotic Party groups which argued the then register for the 2016 general elections was bloated.<br /> <br /> However, a panel chaired by the late Justice V.C.R.A.C. These are Oti, Bono East, Savannah, Ahafo, Western North and North East.<br /> <br />  A total of four million voters were expected to vote in the referendum. But the many YESs will not quite translate into the creation of a new region.<br /> <br /> The constitution stipulates 50 percent turnout and 80 percent out of that number voting YES. Only then can a new region be created.<br /> <br />  The exercise began at 7am on Thursday with a few hitches. While attendance was massive in some parts, others recorded low turnout.  <br /> <br /> But largely, the process has been peaceful and incident-free. Ohemeng Tawiah is in Brong Ahafo where two regions – Ahafo and Bono East – will be created if the requirements are met through the votes.<br /> <br />  He reports at the Tankani Primary School in Atebub-Amentin, one of the many polling stations, 41 voted YES. The area had 43 registered voters.<br /> <br />  At the Hwidiem SHS ‘A’ polling station also in the Brong Ahafo region, out of the 513 registered voters, 473 voted YES.<br /> <br /> Only two voted NO with two rejected ballots. Still at Hwidiem, at the Osuodumgya SHS ‘A’ 604 voted YES and two voted NO. At the Arms Polling Station ‘A’ in the Techiman South Constituency, 636 voted YES, two voted NO and there was one rejected ballot.  Hashmin Mohammed is in the Northern region and reports that at the Asalia Primary ‘B’ polling station 452 out of 478 registered voted YES, none voted NO. Two spoilt ballots were recorded.<br /> <br />  In the Volta regional town of Akpafu, however, some youth decided to boycott the vote.<br /> <br /> They told Joy News correspondent Mawuli Yevu Agbi, they had no interest in the process as they did not call for the creation of the Oti region.<br /> <br />  As of 2 PM at the Akpafu Odomi E.P. Primary School, only nine people had voted and at the end of polls, only 1.8 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballot at the SCMB polling station.<br /> <br />  The situation was different at the Jasikan district. Mr. Speaker the  authority of His Excellency the President, and in keeping with the requirement under Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, may I respectfully present the Budget Statement and Economic Policies of Government for 2019 to this Honourable House.<br /> <br /> 3. Mr. Speaker, this statement is an abridged version of the 2019 Budget Statement. With all the humility I can muster, Mr. Speaker, permit me to say that I am proud to say that the Akufo-Addo government is delivering on this four-year resounding mandate that the people of Ghana has given us.<br /> <br /> This is evident in the impressive strides the nation has made in the past 22 months.<br /> <br /> 9. Mr. Speaker, on behalf of the President, I wish to thank you all, the citizens of this country, for your patience, perseverance, sacrifices, activism and partnership that you have extended to this government.<br /> <br /> So far-reaching and non-partisan has these national sacrifices been, that even now, some members of the Minority in Parliament have decided to lead the campaign for cleaner environment by dumping their gas- guzzling Toyota Land cruisers to ride bicycles to work.<br /> <br /> For example, a former Deputy Minister for Power, during the unforgiving ‘Dumsor’ era under President John Dramani Mahama, was seen two evenings ago riding his bicycle to a luxury furniture shop on the Spintex Road.<br /> <br /> 10. Yes, Mr. Speaker, we have, in the last two budget years,<br /> taken some tough decisions to get the country out of some very rough seas. We are not proud of the fact that there is still hardship in the country.<br /> <br /> But we are comforted by the fact that we have managed to ease the impact of the hardships that the Ghanaian people had been resigned to prior to December 7, 2016.<br /> <br /> We are not there yet. We still have a long way to go in fulfilling the manifest destiny of this blessed land. Indeed, we are being repaid for “the years the locusts have eaten”.<br /> <br /> 11. So, Mr. Speaker, what is, however, clear is that the nation is moving forward under this government and moving forward in the right direction.<br /> <br /> 12.We are now on course to exit the IMF programme by the end of this year. It has been a collective effort by all of us – Government, for exercising the kind of macro-economic competence and discipline that was evidently lacking in the past; and, the people for their patience, understanding, and keeping faith with their government.<br /> <br /> The programme may have had its critics because of the constraints it imposed. But it was a necessary pill because by 2014, the government then had lost its fiscal discipline and had very little choice but to seek the bailout.<br /> <br /> We are grateful to the IMF and are determined to maintain a combination of economic discipline and vibrancy that will ensure that we will not have to be rescued in that manner in the future.<br /> <br /> 13. Mr. Speaker, the philosophy of this government has not been to throw our hands in the air and offer excuses.<br /> <br /> The President, of course, set the standard in his first State of the Nation address. He said: “I was not elected by the overwhelming majority of the Ghanaian people to complain. I was elected to get things done.
