Dr Tony Aidoo, a staunch member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the 40-year national development plan for Ghana as nonsensical.<br />
<br />
Responding to a question on Accra-based Starr FM on Tuesday, 20 November 2018 about comments made by President Nana Akufo-Addo in the early part of 2018 concerning the need to create a database for the various sectors in the country’s economy, the former Ambassador to the Netherlands said: “Data is everything, my friend; it is not only for births and deaths, and not only for electoral register, it is not only for monitoring and evaluation, it is also for planning.<br />
<br />
“You need data to plan; you look at a community: how many toilets do they have? Potable water availability, how much can we spend to provide those items? What about the neighbourhood community? … All those are matters of data. You don’t plan without data; the so-called 40-year plan that was developed under the Mahama administration was to me, nonsense. How do you plan without data?”<br />
<br />
“You don’t have the adequate staff at the local level of the planning authority, which is the district assembly to collect and give you the data. At the sectoral level, no data is available because people are reluctant to release the data and you said you have done a plan”, he wondered.<br />
<br />
The former Senior Presidential Aide and Head of Policy Evaluation and Oversight Unit of the Office of the President from 2009 to 2013, said in his opinion: “A plan is one that is monetised and quantified, without these two elements, there is no plan”.<br />

Former President John Dramani Mahama who is lacing his boots for a comeback in 2020, MyNewsGH.com can report, is keenly considering the choice of former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama to partner him to win back power from the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia-led government in 2020.<br />
<br />
A highly placed source near the former President an a player in his inner circle confirmed to MyNewsGH.com that it is settled that the former President will stage a comeback and part of a revision of strategy, he and a close circle deliberated on selecting four (4) personalities shortlist to partner the former President into the main elections. The list is supposed to be on standby and submitted to a committee that will sit right after the NDC Flagbearership race to choose one of them<br />
Of this four names, Dr Johnson Asiama stands tall as a result of his age, general appeal, technocrat background, unblemished record and hailing from the Volta Region and our source confirmed Mahama himself likes the choice.<br />
<br />
We have also been reliably informed that contender for the flagbearership position of the NDC, Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah has met secretly with Mr John Mahama asking for him to be possibly considered for the running mate slot when Mr Mahama is elected.<br />
<br />
Other names on the list include a woman and a man from the Volta Region and Ashanti Region respectively who both served in the Mahama administration in important positions without blemish.<br />
The former President Mahama we are informed, while he has his list, is open to leaving the entire decision for his choice of running mate to Founder of the party, John Rawlings to appease him and draw him to campaign for the party.<br />
<br />
When this happens, insiders believe Rawlings will bring his daughter Zanetor Rawlings, who will make a play for the top job after Mahama, whether he wins in 2020 or not.<br />
<br />
While tentatively the NDC was supposed to hold its National Flagbearership election in September, our source says this could be pushed to January 2019 while Mr Mahama is most likely the next flagbearer, he will be expected to announce his running mate ”by April 2019 to give ample time for zoning the country and campaigning across”.<br />
<br />
It is being speculated that though the Akufo-Addo government is somehow ‘afraid’ of the candidature of Mr Mahama who has mass appeal among NDC diehards, the NPP intends to replay to voters the ‘old sins’ of Mr Mahama which includes corruption, loose-talk and impunity, to make him unappealing, but for this, our source said, “we are prepared for that, we know their plan already”.<br />
<br />
It is perhaps in this sphere that the choice of Dr Johnson Asiama as a ‘clean’ running mate comes into the picture. Efforts by MyNewsGH.com’s Nana Yaw Adom to reach out to Dr Asiama proved futile as he was unable to respond.<br />
<br />
Earlier, Spokesperson of the former President vehemently denied a statement that made the rounds on social media that former President Mahama will no longer be running again. That statement convinced many observers of the political scene that Mr Mahama’s comeback is cast in stone.<br />
Our source disputed that the choice of Dr Asiama is a copy of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia trick where Dr Bawumia was brought into the fold as  a technocrat and he dazzled voters with a breathe of fresh air and his economic analysis.<br />

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has revealed his intention to quit Parliament soon.<br />
<br />
According to a report, he stated that he will do so, so that no one can threaten him.<br />
<br />
He further stated that no one can gag him with the threat of removing him from office.<br />
<br />
Speaking on Adom TV, he added that once he leaves the Parliament, people will no longer queue in front of his house in search for their daily bread.<br />
<br />
“I have said, I am not afraid of anybody. I have heard them say they want to remove me from parliament. Me? I am ready to leave parliament.<br />
<br />
Is it parliament that feeds me?” he asked. Kennedy Agyapong went on to say that some people who were initially accusing him, have retreated in order to revise their notes.<br />
<br />
This was with respect to the case of contempt earlier brought against him by the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.<br />
<br />
He was alleged to have earlier described Parliament in an distasteful manner, and this did not go down well with his fellow MPs.<br />
<br />
The Privileges Committee, however, would sit on July 3, 2018, and Agyapong and Alhaji Muntaka are expected to meet with its members.

Since it was announced that the investigative journalist, Anas would be premiering a movie that would expose some corrupt practices at the GFA, there have been mixed feelings. Even before the most anticipated expose would be premiered, the GFA president, Kwasi Nyantakyi was picked up by the police after the president gave an order for him to be investigated for using his name to almost win some deal.<br />
<br />
Maverick politician and NPP MP, Kennedy Agyapong has been on Anas’s trail since then, threatening to expose Anas as well because according to him, Anas is also corrupt and takes money from some of the people he records to expose and those who are able to pay, will have their corrupt acts taken out of the video.<br />
<br />
Well, it seems, Kennedy Agyapong is not the only one accusing Anas of being corrupt. Another NPP member and regional chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti region, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has also come out to say that, Anas is corrupt and that soon, he would also come out to expose him.<br />
<br />
In a video teaser that was posted by Adom Tv on their Social media handle, Chairman Wontumi was heard saying:<br />

“I don’t know Anas in NPP; I know Anas to be a Mahama Boy. He works for the NDC. He is a very corrupt guy and very soon I will come out. I once pulled a gun on him”, he said.<br />
<br />
“If you take his tapes to the lab, you can detect they have been cut and some taken out; that is what will make you know he is a liar”, he said.<br />
<br />
Recall that, Mr Agyapong revealed on Adom FM’s morning show yesterday, June 3rd, 2018 on “Dwaso Nsem” that Anas had tried to “blackmail” Chairman Wontumi a number of times but failed.<br />
<br />
“He wanted to set up chairman Wontumi; he tried setting Wontumi up with some women”,Mr Agyapong asserted.<br />

The former President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has been accused by former Vice President of the Republic, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur of rendering him ineffective.<br />
<br />
According to soft spoken Amissah-Arthur, as Vice President, his role was not defined and that someone else was virtually made the Veep in his stead.<br />
<br />
When asked to mention the name of the person who was used as his replacement, the sobbing former Vice President would not specifically mention the name of the person.<br />
<br />
“Need I say more? We all know who was used to relegate me to the background. I don’t need to mention a name for you to decipher who it was, but you are quite aware whom I am referring to. As a matter of fact, I was made redundant” Mr Amissah-Arthur reflected moodily.<br />
<br />
Though he fell short of mentioning the name of his replacement, it is clear the former Vice President was referring to the wife of former President John Mahama, Mrs Lordina Mahama.<br />
<br />
It could be recalled that the relevance of Vice President Amissah-Arthur was negligibly nonexistent as Lordina was seen all over the country, cutting sods for projects, commissioning some and acting as though she were second only to her husband, John Mahama.<br />
<br />
That development became topical at the time and many gurus in the NDC had complained bitterly about it but all to no avail. Mahama stoically decided to stick to his wife using her Lordina Foundation as the smokescreen.<br />
<br />
Vice President Amissah-Arthur was seen to be a pale shadow of himself as his counterpart in the able personality of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia kept on terrorizing him at the time and gave the NDC hell with his intellectual analysis of the woes of Ghana’s economy and proposed solutions to deal with all the challenges the country was confronted with.<br />
<br />
Mr Amissah-Arthur revealed this juicy titbit in a telephone conversation he had with one confidant of Professor Joshua Alabi who has asked for anonymity in this story. He indicates that the former Vice President has thrown his weight to Professor Alabi as he intensifies his campaign to lead the NDC into the next elections<br />

A former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports in the erstwhile NDC government, Joseph Yamin says former Trades Minister Ekwow Spio-Garbrah’s ambition to lead the NDC in 2020 polls will never happen.<br />
<br />
“Nobody within the NDC is expecting Spio-Garbrah to come and take us two terms. We are expecting who will win power for us in 2020 and the only person we see very potent in winning power for us in 2020 is John Dramani Mahama; they should leave it or take, simpliciter!” he told sit-in host Kwaku Owusu-Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5FM Friday.<br />

For him, President John Dramani Mahama’s future will be determined by the party insisting the NDC will shove the flagbearership position down his[Mahama] throat as he’s the best choice for the party now.<br />
<br />
Flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah is calling for strong competition in deciding who emerges the Presidential candidate of the party for the 2020 general elections.<br />
<br />
According to him, the largest opposition party has not had competition in the two previous elections which saw ex-President John Mahama being elected as the party’s Presidential candidate.<br />
<br />
“NDC needs competition, in 2012 we agreed to have no competition, in 2016 we agreed to have no competition. We cannot be a party where every time we only correlate people but we don’t allow competition. Competition is good for the party, it’s good for the candidate because it pushes us to give our best. If you don’t have competition in your party when you go to the national elections you’ll also lose because you’ve not tested the ground, you’ve not actually activated your members. It’s like a farm where the activation has not taken place and you’ll find that you don’t have a bountiful harvest,” Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Thursday.<br />

He further urged members of the NDC to vote for a presidential aspirant who can serve two presidential terms if the party wins power.<br />
<br />
But Joseph Yamin argued that Dr. Spio-Garbrah is deluded in his thinking that the main opposition NDC is seeking for a Flagbearer that could lead the party for two terms as President.<br />
<br />
He stated: “the point for us is we don’t need a two-term Flagbearer, that is not our target for now. Our main goal is to win the 2020 elections and not who’ll serve two terms.”<br />
<br />
“I’ve been a fan all this while, but I’m sorry to say that Spio Garbrah is gradually disappointing me with his statement and politics. I’ve been an advocate of him and I see that he’s a politically mature person; Somebody knowledgeable and an asset for the NDC. However, I’m worried about his statements of late. I sometimes ask myself what is making him so desperate to go out there and be making those statements?” he wondered.<br />

In a judgement delivered Monday, the Court, presided over by Mr Justice Anthony Yeboah, said the 12 months grace period starts from January 1, 2018 and it is to enable Ghanaians in the diaspora to vote in the 2020 elections<br />

In case the electoral body has any justifiable reason not to comply with the order, the court ordered it to within 30 days to the expiration of the deadline, publish its reasons and also appear before the court to explain.<br />

The judgement was the culmination of a legal suit filed by 5 Ghanaians in the diaspora, who went to court on the basis that the EC had deliberately refused to implement the Act 699, 11 years after it was passed.<br />
<br />
They argued that the refusal of the EC to implement Act 699 was an affront to their fundamental human rights as enshrined by the 1992 Constitution. They, therefore, wanted the court to order the EC to kickstart the implementation of the Act since it was its statutory obligation.<br />
<br />
In the judgement, the court held that the EC had failed to justify the delay in implementation of the Act.<br />
<br />
According to the court although the EC was aware of its obligation to implement the Act, it “deliberately” failed to implement and gave no cogent justification<br />
<br />
“The 1st respondent (EC) is only good at reciting the challenges in implementing the Act and not finding solutions to the challenges”, Mr Justice Yeboah said.<br />
<br />
Also the court ruled that it was “outrageous “ for the EC to set itself an indefinite deadline to implement the Act without taking into consideration the rights of Ghanaians in the diaspora.<br />
