Mr Rawlings had been on admission at Korle Bu for about a week for an undisclosed ailment.

Graphic Online gathers he felt sick after his mother's burial about three weeks ago.

Mr Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947. His mother, Madam Victorial Agbotui died in September 2020 at age 101 and was buried on October 24, 2020. <div><br /></div><div> As a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician, Mr Rawlings led a military junta from 1981 until 1992 and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana from January 7, 1993 to January 6, 2001. </div><div><br /></div><div> Mr Rawlings initially came to power as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. </div><div><br /></div><div> Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on May 15, 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. </div><div><br /></div><div> After initially handing power over to a civilian government, he took back control of the country on December 31, 1981 as the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). </div><div><br /></div><div> In 1992, Mr Rawlings resigned from the military, founded the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and became the first President of the 4th Republic. </div><div><br /></div><div>He was re-elected in 1996 for four more years.

In a press release, the police indicated the four suspects alleged to be part of an NDC vigilante group, Hawks, were behind the attack.<br />
<br />
The suspects are Husein Barnabas, also known as Warrior, Mijima, Damos, and Abu Taliban.<br />
<br />
This search comes after some executive and members of the NDC were attacked at the regional office in Kumasi on February 18.<br />
<br />
According to an eye witness, the assailant, associated with an NDC militia, the Hawks, shot another NDC man thrice; first in the leg while he runs and twice in the chest at close range as he lay vulnerable.<br />
<br />
Zainab Suleman, the mother of the deceased, told Joy News she looks up to Allah for strength, thanking the whole country for the support so far.<br />
<br />
“I pray that Allah strengthens, blessings and protect the youth in this country from such attacks…,” she said.<br />
<br />
Mohammed Iddrissu, the brother of the deceased wants government and security operatives to ensure that they get justice for Abdul Wasiu Iddrissu.<br />
<br />
“People should not be allowed to hide behind any party to do the wrong thing. A crime is a crime and those in authority must ensure justice is served,” he said.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Ambrose Derry, the Interior Minister has assured that the police will expeditiously investigate the murder.<br />
<br />
He said the issue will be treated as a criminal one and the perpetrators will be brought to book. He is, however, cautioning against reprisals.<br />
<br />
According to him, the incident provides an opportunity for all political parties to work together to stop political party vigilantism.<br />

Former President John Mahama has been hit with yet another lawsuit four days to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) presidential election slated on Saturday, February 23, 2019.<br />
<br />
In the latest lawsuit sighted by citinewsroom.com, a former Secretary of the NDC in the Trobu constituency in Accra, Edmund Palmer is seeking to restrain Mahama from contesting in the party’s upcoming presidential election.<br />
<br />
Edmund Palmer in his writ wants the court to stop Mahama “from pursuing his bid to be elected as a flagbearer/presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress in his capacity as a former president of the Republic of Ghana, without the permission of Parliament.”<br />
<br />
He is also seeking “an order of perpetual injunction restraining John Mahama from purporting to seek re-election howsoever as president of the Republic of Ghana without the permission of Parliament pursuant to Article 68(2), 68(3), 68(4), 68(5), 68(6),68(7) and 68(9) of the 1992 Constitution.”<br />
<br />
The former NDC Trobu Secretary also wants the court to order John Mahama “to wind up the activities of his campaign office that was established for the purpose of seeking to coordinate his activities in his quest to become flagbearer/presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress.”<br />
<br />
He further wants Mahama to stop all fundraising activities in support his re-election bid without the permission of Parliament.<br />

Earlier in the week, one Stephen Agyeman dragged Mahama to court with the view of stopping Mahama from seeking re-election.<br />
<br />
In his writ, Stephen Agyeman argued that Mahama’s re-election move violates the 1992 Constitution and he is thus asking the court to stop the former president from contesting in the NDC’s presidential election.<br />
<br />
Mr. Agyeman is seeking a declaration to the effect that John Mahama “cannot purport to seek re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana” pursuant to Articles 68 clauses 2 to 9 of the Constitution.<br />

Agyeman is also urging the court to declare that John Mahama is not qualified to stand re-election as president of the country.<br />
<br />
“A declaration that pursuant to Article 66 (1) and 66 (2) of the 1992 Constitution, the defendant is not qualified as a candidate to stand for re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.”<br />
<br />
According to Agyeman, because John Mahama enjoys some privileges as former President, raising funds to support his bid for the presidential ticket of the NDC, without the permission of Parliament, he “has contravened Article 68 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.”<br />
