At the end of the final round, St Peter’s had 45 points, WASS 44 points and ADISCO losing with 39 points.<br /> <br /> Promising school, WASS has come far in this competition as they battled it all out with PERSCO and ADISCO to win but luck wasn’t on their side. They came from the bottom to the top leading with 41 points at the end of the fourth round.<br /> <br /> ADISCO on the other hand, after being in the finals for four consecutive times lost again in the competition. Most people are describing them on social media as the Juventus of NSMQ.<br /> <br /> These three schools rose above over 400 schools to claim a place in the final to battle it out for the bragging right.<br /> <br /> St. Peter’s SHS overcame its compatriots from the Volta Region; Mawuli School and Keta SHTS, in its semi-final.<br /> <br /> Adisadel College booked its fourth consecutive appearance in the National Science & Maths Quiz final after beating local rivals, Mfantsipim School, and Ghana National College.<br /> <br /> West Africa SHS knocked out defending champions, Prempeh College in its semifinal contest.<br /> <br /> Adisadel College and West Africa SHS started off the tournament as seeded schools, while St Peter’s started off in the preliminary stages because of its relatively weak performances in recent years despite being regarded as a science and math powerhouse.<br /> <br /> Only 11 schools out of the 475 schools to have competed have won the competition since its inception.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has promised to host the winners of this year’s NSMQ at the Jubilee House in Accra. <br /> <br /> <iframe allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lFl-p_xd-W0?rel=0" width="100%"></iframe> <br /> <br /> <br /> credit: Ghana web

It has been produced by Primetime Limited, an advertising and PR Agency, with a huge interest in education, since 1993.<br /> <br /> The objective of the National Science & Maths Quiz has been to promote the study of the sciences and mathematics, help students develop quick thinking and a probing and scientific mind about the things around them, while fostering healthy academic rivalry among senior high schools.<br /> <br /> The quiz, popularly referred to as “brilla” by many who have gone through the secondary school system is by far one of the few academic events that bring all of Ghana’s secondary schools together. The schools and students look forward to it. The National Science and Maths Quiz is the longest running educational programme on a Ghanaian television. It is broadcast on GTV every Saturday at 11am and Wednesdays at 4pm.<br /> <br /> <b>Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Legon (PRESEC)</b> is the most successful school in the quiz so far. They are 5 time winners who have been to the finals 7 times, equaled only by Opoku Ware School which has not chalked that much success in the finals. Achimota School is the only unisex school to have won the competition so far. No female only school has ever won the competition. Only 11 schools out of the hundreds of Senior High Schools in Ghana have won the competition since its inception.<br /> <br /> From 2012, the GES, through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Schools, CHASS, took up the sponsorship of the programme. Thus, the competition was opened up to many more schools to participate. In 2013, 66 out of the 81 invited schools participated. In 2014, the number of schools was increased to 135 to give the programme a truly national character. From 2014, 108 schools are selected from regional competitions to join 27 seeded schools (quarter-finalists from the previous year's competition) at the National Championships.<br /> <br /> <b>Who We Are:</b><br /> The NSMQ is the longest-running independent production on television in Ghana. The quiz mistress is Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann. Currently, every contest is composed of five rounds with the following rules:<br /> <ul> <li> <b>Round 1</b> — The round of fundamental questions. Each contesting school receives 4 Biology, 4 Chemistry, 4 Physics and 4 Mathematics questions, totaling 16 to answer. A wrongly answered question may be carried over as a bonus. Partial credit is sometimes possible.</li> <li> <b>Round 2</b> Now has a new round called the speed race</li> <li> <b>Round 3</b> — Problem of the day! The contestants are required to solve a single questions within 3 minutes. This question is worth 10 points.</li> <li><b>Round 4</b> — True or False statements are given to the contestants in turns. The objective is to determine whether each statement is true or false. A correctly answered question fetches 2 points. A wrongly answered questions attracts a penalty of -1 point. One may decide not to answer a question, in which case it will be carried over as a bonus for the full benefit of the two points.</li> <li><b>Round 5</b> — Riddles; Clues are given to the contesting schools. The schools are to compete against each other to find the answers to the riddles. Getting the correct answer on the first clue fetches 5 points. On the second clue, 4 points. On the third or any other succeeding clue, 3 points.
