His crime was an attempt to re-arrest them after they escaped from his hands when he was asked to escort the two and twelve others to Sekondi to Awutu Senya.
The fourteen prisoners were placed in the custody of the unnamed officer who was asked to convey them from Sekondi to Awutu Senya on foot since there was no vehicle for that purpose.
On the way, two of the prisoners – a male and female – asked to ease themselves. While keeping watch over them, the two escaped causing him to ask the other prisoners for help to re-arrest the runaway prisoners.
Three out of the remaining prisoners, according to him joined the two to escape as well.
After several search, the prison officer said he chanced upon two of them who started beating him for attempting to re-arrest them.
This was the experience of the officer who according to Captain Smart is now on pension but has not received his pension pay.
In this Wednesday’s edition of the Fabewoso segment of Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’, Captain Smart tells of the numerous problems of the prison wardens.
