Some aggrieved family members and friends of Richmond Osei Tawiah, the boy who collapsed and died in Kumasi recently whilst under police arrest, have allegedly invoked curses on a policewoman at Krofrom in Kumasi.

Police for the female policewoman who, together with two policemen, arrested Tawiah on that fateful day, resulting in Tawiah’s demise.

The drama was said to have unfolded at Corporal Joyce Owusu Ansah’s family house at Krofrom recently when these aggrieved people in the area stormed the place and invoked curses on the policewoman, even though she was not there.

ACP Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who made the disclosure, said the people used eggs and schnapps to curse the policewoman “even in her absence outside the crime scene”.

He said that the angry-looking people also threatened to kill the policewoman and her family over the death of Tawiah, sternly warning those behind the dastardly act to stop in order to avert having issues with the law.

ACP Duku stated that “The Regional Police Command wishes to make it known to those bent on this vengeance that the policewoman in question is not [the female officer accused of culpability in the death of Tawiah] so nobody should attack her.”

He explained that the three policemen who stormed Krofrom on that fateful day, including the policewoman, were at the police headquarters in Accra in connection with Tawiah’s death so the other policewoman should be left alone.

“They may look alike but not the same person and any act of abuse, verbally or physically, against her will not be tolerated,” the police chief stated with a grim face during a press conference on Monday.

ACP Duku noted that “The policewoman has been asked to defend herself whenever attacked by anyone—family member or otherwise of deceased Richmond Osei—and also report any abuse on her to the police for swift action.”
