Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, Ashanti regional Police Commander, has been promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP) by President John Dramani Mahama.

A letter Signed by DSP Freeman Tetteh, on behalf of the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service said the promotion takes effect from 1 June 2015.

The letter specified: “The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has promoted Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Nathan Kofi Baokye to the rank of Commissioner of Police. His promotion takes effect from 1 June 2016. The IGP, Dr John Kudalor expresses his heartiest congratulations to COP Kofi Boakye”.

Commenting on DCOP Boakye’s elevation on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ on June Monday June 27, presidential staffer Kojo Adu-Asare touted the credentials of Mr Boakye, describing him as a hardworking young man, who deserves the promotion.

He indicated that Kofi Boakye “knows how to navigate his way into the system, in my opinion everywhere he is posted, he tries to excel, so I’m not surprised President Mahama has promoted him.”

“I congratulate him everywhere he is,” Mr Adu-Asare added. Also commenting on the same programme, Mr Mike Ocquaye Jnr, a member of the communication team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) noted that Mr Kofi Boakye is “a very sharp man, who is doing his work well.”
