The Member of Parliament for Atwima-Nwabiagya in the Ashanti region is calling for the immediate resignation of President John Mahama following an allegation that he accepted a car gift from a contractor.

According to Isaac Kwame Asiamah, the action of the President if established as true could constitute grounds for his [Mahama] impeachment.

JOYNEWS investigations have revealed that President Mahama was given a brand new Ford Expedition in 2012 by the contractor who won the bid to construct the $650,000 Ghana Embassy Wall in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou.

According to reports, in 2014 Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee ordered the Bank of Ghana to investigate the transaction when the cost of the project came up.

But checks by Joy News reveal the Bank did not undertake the investigation. The contractor in question is the same person who also won the bid to construct the recently commissioned Dodo-Pepeso section of the Eastern Corridor Road.

JOYNEWS checks also show there are moves to award him an 82 million cedis contract on sole sourcing. Well, Manasseh Azure Awuni who travelled to Burkina Faso to meet the contractor reports that he admitted giving the car to the president but insists it is not a bribe.

Government though conceding that the President Mahama accepted the car gift maintained that it did not influence the two contracts awarded to the giver, Djibril Kanazoe.

But Hon. Asiamah, who is also Member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament in an interview with Adom News, said President Mahama has disgraced the entire nation.

“President Mahama breathes, drinks and eats corruption; he is fantastically corrupt” he fumed.

In his view, President Mahama has breached his Oath of office for being dishonest to the people of Ghana.

Isaac Asiamah added that if the President fails to resign, he will lead the process of impeachment against him.
