The veteran journalist commenting on the alleged assault on the Manhyia North Member of Parliament (MP) by Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako known as Chairman Wontumi, said it was appropriate for the police to act with the same speed and alacrity with which they caused the arrest of Chairman Wontumi.
“Why is Chairman Wontumi the only person who has been arrested when there are others who in the past have done same…the police service has to be fair in dealing with these things…,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP was arrested and detained by the Ashanti Regional Police for allegedly slapping the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwa and assaulting the constituency secretary.
He was granted bail by an Asokwa Magistrate Court Wednesday, after the legislator and the secretary agreed for an out of court settlement of the case.
And Kwesi Pratt Jnr commenting on this on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday said the act was simply uncalled for adding that it was just inappropriate for the Regional Party to have slapped a Legislator.
“MPs in the law are given special protection…why would you want to slap someone that the laws of the land gives special protection to…you can’t even slap your child or garden boy and go scot free…,” he said.
He further argued that the claim by Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyepong that the Manhyia North MP deserved more than a slap was neither here nor there as according to him, no one has the right to slap another person for being ‘arrogant.'
“I have heard an MP claiming he deserved more than a slap, but I ask, do we slap people for being arrogant…I beg, we should be given a break…this is just uncalled for,” he added.
The Insight Editor further called on the leadership of the NPP to be up and doing since their actions are fast sinking the image of the party in the country.
“If the leadership of the party could be circumspect in their utterances, it would augur well for the party, but unfortunately, the utterances and actions of some of the leadership are causing the party,” he said.
