Chairman Wontumi spent Tuesday night behind bars for allegedly assaulting a sitting Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Collins Amankwah and his constituency secretary Felix Ibrahim.
The case has been adjourned to June 1, 2016. The beleaguered chairman has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault against a public officer.
Meanwhile, the two victims have written to the Police to discontinue the case against Chairman Wontumi.
A letter written by lawyers of the MP to the Police said: “We act as solicitors for Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah and Mr. Felix Ibrahim and it is on that instruction that we write.
“Our clients are complainants in the above mentioned case against the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako. Our clients have instructed us to their decision to pursue settlement and have accordingly instructed us to serve you notice of their said intention”.
It continued: “We would be grateful if you could graciously suspend further action on the case to enable the parties in good faith resolve the issue in pursuit of the said settlement”.
