The Kwahu Afram Plains North District has elected Honorable Kate Mawusi as the new Presiding Member for the District Assembly at Donkorkrom.

She polled a total of 41 votes representing 89% from the total votes cast of 46. It took a round off for her to be elected as the first election failed to attain the two thirds majority.

Four contested the position with  Philip Taidu polling 14 votes,  Bismark Bonney  and Emmanuel Ahiable polling one and two respectively. Honorable polled 28 votes in the first round thereby necessitating the round off. There was one spoilt ballot.

The three however unanimously threw their support behind her and she was confirmed by the District Electoral Commission having obtained 41 votes with 5 opposing.

Honorable Kate Mawusi , a worker with the Donkorkrom Presby Hospital as well as a business woman thus becomes the first woman in as many years to be elected as a Presiding Member in Afram Plains.

She promised to create welfare union for Assembly members as well as initiate measures for awarding scholarships to brilliant but needy students in the various communities. She also promised to strengthen the area councils to make them function effectively and efficiently.

She thanked the members for the trust repose in her and promised to work assiduously for the development of Kwahu Afram Plains.

The District Magistrate, Mr.Anthony Abebrese admonished her to be resolute and ensure that the standing orders of the house are followed to the latter. She later took the oaths of Office and of Secrecy.
