He says challenges with healthcare delivery, unemployment and general downturn of the economy are evidence of a visionless government.
In his address to supporters in the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani during his nationwide ‘Rise and Build Tour’, he said that Ghana, with abundant resources, must be managed by competent hands.
Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied on the tour by leading members of the party including Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey.
The flagbearer assured that if the party is voted into office in the 2016 general elections, the NPP will “build our country again”.
Nana Akufo-Addo is hopeful unemployment would be reduced under his leadership.
He lamented that even though schools have reopened, the classrooms are half empty because parents cannot pay for their children’s education.
He also mentioned that the National Health Insurance Scheme established by the Kufuor administration is no longer working, thanks to what he described as visionless leadership.
The flagbearer pointed out that Ghana cannot work again when governance is reduced to propaganda.
Nana Akufo-Addo also assured supporters of the party that steps are being taken to solve wrangling in the party, and was certain the internal crisis will soon be over.
The NPP leader is expected to meet constituency executives and party faithful in Sunyani.
He also charged the police administration to be neutral and firm in the discharge of their duties.
He maintained that the party doesn’t want to take the law into its hands so “we want the police to behave properly”.
Joy News’ correspondent Precious Semevor reports that most of the party supporters he spoke to were confident Ghana will see development under Nana Akufo-Addo.
Some were worried about the internal wrangling, noting that the grassroots draw inspiration from the top and charged the leadership to be united.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s main challenger in the party’s presidential primary, Alan Kyerematen reiterated calls for unity in the party, and asked supporters to disabuse the minds of claims that he has created a rival camp to the flagbearer.
